Custom Hearing Protection

Custom Ear and Hearing Protection

  • Swim Earmolds: These custom plugs are used for children and adults to prevent water from entering the ear. Commonly used while children with PE tubes are swimming or bathing. Swim molds are customized to the individual’s ear, providing maximum protection, and come in a variety of fun colors.
  • Noise Protection Earmolds: We are now more aware of the damaging effects of excessive noise levels on hearing. So whether your noise exposure comes from your work environment, mowing the lawn, vacuuming the house, motorcycles, etc., customized earmolds can provide protection from noise-induced hearing loss. We also offer electronic shooter’s plugs for hunters and those in law enforcement.
  • Musician’s Earplugs: It is widely known that loud, intense music can wreak havoc on hearing and lead to hearing loss and tinnitus. Filtered earplugs reduce sound levels evenly across the frequency spectrum so that music and speech are clear and natural, not muffled as with non-custom (foam) earplugs. Musician’s earplugs reduce the risk of hearing damage (which may lead to tinnitus and hearing loss) for many noisy occupations and venues. Customized to the individual’s ear anatomy, they can enhance the music experience for audiences while protecting hearing and allow musicians to hear how their own instruments blend with others.

How Loud is Too Loud?
how-loud-is-too-loud

Background sound is a constant in our busy lives. Normally, background noises are at safe levels that won’t impact our hearing, but repeated exposure to noise above 85 decibels (dB SPL) can cause hearing loss. Noise induced hearing loss, as a matter of fact, is the second most common form of hearing loss (ranking behind presbycusis, hearing loss related to the normal aging process), and is the most preventable type.

It is estimated that 15 percent of Americans between the ages of 20 and 69 are experiencing hearing loss that is the result of exposure to excessive noise either at work or through recreational activities. Regular hearing tests can help identify problems early, reducing your risk of developing long-term damage. Should our audiologist Dr. Novick diagnose you with a noise-induced hearing loss, she will provide you with educational information and make a recommendation for the kind of hearing protection device that will best suit your needs.
